PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Men's and Women's Basketball teams will face Howard University today in the William P. Hytche Athletic Center. The Lady Hawks (13-8, 6-2 MEAC) improved their winning streak to six straight games, setting a school record, and moved into a tie for second place in the conference with a 61-55 decision over Delaware State on Monday. Casey Morton (Mardela Springs, Md./Mardela H.S.) led all scorers with 17 points. April McBride (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle H.S.) finished with 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Tiffany Reid (Philadelphia, Pa./National Christian Academy) and Queenique Tyler (Ft. Washington, Md./Potomac H.S.) added 11 and 10 respectively. Howard (2-18, 2-6 MEAC) enters the game having dropped their last six contests, including a 94-88 overtime loss to Norfolk State on Monday. Shannon Carlisle leads the Bison offensive attack with 13.8 points per game, while backcourt mate Asha Santee is adding 13.3 points per game. Tamaya Daniels is a force in the post as she is averaging just shy of a double-double with 10.4 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. The Hawks (2-21, 0-9 MEAC) enter tonight's game looking to put an end to a 12 game skid after coming up short against Coppin State on Monday, 59-54. Ed Tyson (Baltimore, Md./Walbrook H.S.) led all scorers with 30 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the floor. Marc Davis (Baltimore, Md./Walbrook H.S.) added 11 points while Denzel Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa,/Lincoln H.S.) chipped in with eight points and 14 rebounds.
Howard (5-17, 2-6 MEAC) will look to end a two game slide after losing to Norfolk State on Monday, 59-44. The Bison are led by Eugene Myatt with 14.3 points per game, while teammate Randy Hampton is contributing 11 points per game. UMES split the series with Howard last season as both teams won on the road.
