Feb. 14, 2005 GREENSBORO, N.C. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's freshman center, Krisit Veltkamp was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending on February 13, 2005. Veltkamp, who lead her team to a 1-1 record on the week, shared the honor with Hampton Universities Monica Rogers. Veltkamp had 14 points, four rebounds and four blocks in a victory over Florida A&M on Saturday, February 12th, which was also Homecoming at UMES. She went 6-8 from the field and made her only three-point attempt. Veltkamp averaged 12 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game, and 3.5 blocks per game last week and shot 52.9% from the field. Veltkamp, who played limited minutes earlier in the season, ranks third on the team in scoring with 8.6 points a game, but has scored 9.8 points a game in conference match-ups. She leads the team in field goal percentage shooting a solid 49.6% and an even better 54.1% in conference games. With 54 blocks on the season, Veltkamp leads the MEAC in total block shots and ranks second with 2.45 blocks per game. Earlier in the season, Veltkamp recorded a career-high 18 points against both Morgan State (1/24/05) and Bethune-Cookman (1/10/05).
Hampton's Co-Rookie of the Week Monica Rogers recorded a career-high 14 points in a win over FAMU. She was perfect from the field (6-6) and grabbed six rebounds. She was one rebound shy of her first career double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds in a victory over N.C. A&T.
