VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's basketball standout forward April McBride received her third nod this season for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Rookie of the Week selection, the MEAC announced today.

McBride, a 6-1 freshman forward from New Rochelle, N.Y. led UMES in scoring the past two games. She tallied 16 points in a loss to Delaware State on Monday, February 12 and the same in a one-point thrilling win at Florida A & M on Saturday. McBride shot 50 percent from the field (12-of-24) and recorded 32 points, 15 rebounds, and two blocks during the two games. McBride is currently averaging 9.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, both lead the team in those categories.

McBride previously was named Rookie of the Week on January 15th and 22nd of this year.

Senior Guard Qiana Chetham also was recognized by the conference as a top performer for her 14 points including 4-of-5 from the behind the arc in 12 minutes of play against Florida A&M.

The Lady Hawks are in action tonight when they face the Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman College at 5:30 pm in Daytona Beach.
