May 4, 2007 PRINCESS ANNE, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's basketball team has announced the signing of another recruit for the 2007-08 season. Queenique Tyler (Potomac, Md.) will join newcomers Casey Morton and Josephine McLane on the hardwood next fall. Tyler, 5-6 combo guard, averaged 15 points, six assists and six steals per game as a senior at Potomac High School in Potomac, Maryland. She garnered second team All-League 2A honors this past season and was an Honorable Mention All-Metro Selection by the Washington Post. Tyler helped her team to the State Championship game two of her four years and won a Regional Championship in 2004-05. "We expect her to give us depth at the guard position which will allow us to play a more pressure-style defense," Head Coach Fred Batchelor said. "Offensively she is a lefty 3-point shooter that can serve as a secondary ball handler. She definitely addresses our need to shoot the ball better from the perimeter." Tyler will join fellow guards Morton and McLane as the newcomers to the Hawk lineup this year. Morton, from nearby Mardela Springs, Maryland, averaged 28.3 points and 5.6 assists per game as a junior at Mardela High School while McLane, a 5-11 guard/forward, averaged 10 points and five rebounds per game as a junior at Westfield High School in Centerville, Virginia.
