VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore women's basketball team has been selected to finish second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and senior April McBride (New Rochelle, N.Y.) earned a spot on the preseason All-MEAC first team, the league announced Thursday.

The Lady Hawks tallied 368 total points and two first-place votes in the poll, voted on by the conference's women's basketball head coaches and sports information directors. North Carolina A&T was picked to repeat as conference champions with 458 points and 16 first-place nods.

McBride was named to the preseason first team for the second straight season. The 6-foot forward was fifth in the MEAC in points per game (16.2) and fourth in rebounds per game (8.6) in 2008-09 and was top-10 in four more statistical categories. She totaled 10 double-doubles and six consecutively. McBride was also named a two-time HSRN National Player of the Week.

Joining McBride on the first team is MEAC Preseason Player of the Year Corin Adams from Coppin State, N.C. A&T teammates Ta'wuana Cook and Jaleesa Sams as well as Bethune-Cookman center Sarah Bolden.

Rounding out the predicted order of finish is Coppin State in third with one first-place vote and 346 points, Delaware State (320), Morgan State (304), Hampton (three first-place votes, 243 points), Florida A&M (232), Howard (154), Bethune-Cookman (130), South Carolina State (88) and Norfolk State (42).

The second team is comprised of Zykia Brown (Brown), Deidra Jones and Antonia Bennett (Florida A&M), Demetria Frank (Bethune-Cookman), Lamona Smalley (N.C. A&T), Laura Lewis (Hampton) and Kristina Rosario (Morgan State).

The Lady Hawks open the season Nov. 10 in exhibition action against Salisbury at 6 p.m. at the Hytche Center.
