Long helped lead the Lady Hawks with 17 points

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.—Freshman Hakeem Baxter (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Junior Jessica Long (Fort Washington, Md.) have been named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on November 12th. Both athletes are receiving the honor for the first time this year.

In Saturday’s game against Columbia, Baxter tied with teammates KyRee Jones in points with a team-high 17 and Troy Snyder in rebounds with 5, also team highs. Baxter went 6-for-9 from the floor along with five points from free throws. Baxter also contributed an assist, adding to his solid performance.  He also led the Hawks in playing time, having played 33 minutes in his first collegiate start.

Long had similar stats to Baxter in her performance against USC Upstate on Thursday night at the Hytche Center. She also led the Lady Hawks in minutes with 33, and tied with teammate TeAmber Brooks with a team-high 17 points. Long also led her team in assists with five, and added two steals and a rebound along the way.

Baxter and the men’s team will host Salisbury University Tuesday night at the Hytche Center, with tip-off at 7pm. Jessica and the Lady Hawks begin a three game road trip in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday against American University.
