ALEXIS UDOJI HONORED AS MEAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference has announced that University of Maryland Eastern Shore freshman center Alexis Udoji is the conference Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday. Udoji (Randolph, Mass.) earns the first women's basketball weekly honor for the Lady Hawks this season. She played in two games for UMES this week, helping start the 2012-13 season for the Lady Hawks, including a victory at home over Elizabeth City State. In her debut game against George Mason, Udoji shot 1-3 from the field with two points, two blocks, a rebound and an assist. Returning home, she had a strong game against Elizabeth City State, nearly earning a double double with 11 points off 4-6 shooting and 3-4 from the free throw line, adding nine boards and four blocks. In addition, Jessica Long (Fort Washington, Md.) was honored as an "Other Top Performer" for scoring 22 points and five assists combined in the two games, including a game-high 12 points against George Mason. Udoji, Long and the Lady Hawks will return to the hardwood tomorrow with a home game against Old Dominion at 6 p.m.
