The Game
The UMES Lady Hawks look to break a two-game losing skid as they travel to Towson Saturday for a non-conference battle against the Towson Tigers. The game tips off at 1:00 pm at the Towson Center, and will be followed by the Virginia Tech-Towson men's game.
The Lady Hawks are 2-3 in 2003-04 after consecutive losses at Maryland and at St. Francis (NY). The Tigers, off to their best start since '98-'99 at 4-1, come in to the game riding a three-game winning streak.
News and Notes
Highly regarded junior-college transfer Erica Bennett (Jacksonville C.C.) becomes eligible to compete for the first time with the Lady Hawks in the Towson game. Bennett will likely see extended action in the contest....Tiffany Winkfield is off to a great start to the '03-'04 season. The senior has recorded a double-double in each of the past four games, and is leading the team with both 17.6 ppg and 12.2 rpg....Octavia Thompson led UMES in scoring in three of the team's first five games and is second on the team with an average of 16.4 points per contest. The junior averaged 11.5 points per game last season....UMES has been picked to finish 6th in the MEAC in the conference's preseason poll. They finished 6th last season....The Lady Hawks are concluding a stretch of playing their first six games away from home. The Hawks home opener is not until January 3rd, when they host conference-rival Delaware State.
