Baltimore, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Bowling Team enjoyed the month off, they used it to rest, practice and apparently practice some more as they opened 2006 with a bang, racking up a seven win and two loss record in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division meet this past weekend. UMES started slow, opening the event with a 788-765 loss to Hampton University but quickly got on track picking up four consecutive wins to close day one of the event. The Lady Hawks knocked off Morgan State (838-828), Howard (901-816), Coppin State (963-754) and Delaware State (907-843). Day one saw above 200 games from Jessica Worsley (204 & 234) and Christine King (223). While the totals were not incredibly high all other scores averaged out to be 169 for the day. On day two the Hawks again started slow, dropping their first match to Morgan State 974-927. They rebounded quickly to post three more Ws (929-789 over Hampton, 814-699 over Coppin State and 870-852 over Howard). Laura Zanrucha and King were the high rollers of the day with a 225 and 202 respectively. The Hawks return to action this coming weekend (Jan. 28-29) when they hope to be high rollers in Las Vegas, Nev. at the Brunswick Coca-Cola Classic.
