Baltimore, MD - The Lady Hawks of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) didn't have to travel as far they usually do to face the top bowling competition in the country. Instead of Las Vegas, St. Louis, or North Carolina the nation's top teams came to Baltimore to roll in the Morgan State Invitational Bowling Tournament on the weekend of February 27 and 28, 2005. The Lady Hawks took a fourth place finish in the 16 team field and placed three bowlers in the top 25 individual rankings.

On day one the Hawks took on conference rivals Florida A & M (889-854), South Carolina State (969-744), and Bethune-Cookman (917-820). For good measure the field threw in defending National Champion Nebraska. The Hawks easily rolled past the three MEAC schools but fell to Nebraska 1069-881. In the events senior Erin Fagan rolled another outstanding series, a 623, with a high game of 229. Megan Raymond also came out rolling putting together a 557 series with a 223 high game. Sandra Maresca, 201 Maryetta Lewis, 208 also had games over 200.

On day two the Lady Hawks picked up another four wins, this time in Baker Games. They started the day falling a little short to Farleigh Dickinson (552-491) but rebounded to defeat Bowie State (520-486), Sacred Heart (586-526), St. Peter's College (625-455) and Morgan State (549-484).

Maresca was the highest individual finisher with a 184.2 average while Fagan and Lewis rolled 183.2 and 181 average respectively.

UMES put together a 7-2 record in the tournament and moves to a season record of 87-25. They would actually be 92-26 but the NCAA scratched one day of competition at the MEAC Championships for improper formatting.

UMES is off a few weeks as they travel to the IBC National Qualifier in Fairview Heights, Ill on March 18-20, 2005. If they perform well enough they will qualify for the IBC Championships at the end of April.
