NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The sixth ranked University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawks Bowling team toppled second ranked Nebraska and fifth ranked Central Missouri among five others at the Music City Classic this past weekend while posting a 7-2 record and finishing fourth based on total pin fall with 9,319 pins.

All matches were head to head and UMES (82-20) came out on day two strong, taking down Wisconsin-Whitewater (909-850), Southern (881-814), Central Missouri (976-882) and finished the event off with a defeat of Nebraska (1051-1019).

On day one the Hawks had knocked out Delaware State (DSU) (872-699), Minnesota State Mankato (964-882) and Alabama A & M (973-965). They sandwiched their wins with a pair of losses to Texas Southern (TSU) (846-859) and Arkansas State (879-919), two teams the Hawks had beaten earlier this season.

The Lady Hawks were on fire tallying 14 games of 200 or better. Laura Zanrucha and Marion Singleton both had four games above the 200 mark. Zanrcuha posted a 206 against DSU and a 223 against TSU. On day two she tallied a 212 in a bye for pin fall and a 245 in the win over Central Missouri. Singleton posted her 200 games mostly on day two. She rolled a 213 against Wisconsin-Whitewater, a 214 against the bye and a 234 in the win over Nebraska. Singleton tallied a 234 against Minnesota State on day one.

Zanrucha's 245 was the highest game of any Hawk. The high for any competitor was a 258.

Other 200 plus games came from Jessica Worsley (208, 225), Michelle Wallace (226, 220) and Megan Raymond (241, 200).

Zanrucha (8th) and Singleton (10th) both took home top ten finishes in the field. Zanrucha averaged a 191 while Singleton averaged a 188. Worsley was 12th with a 187 while Wallace was 14th with a 186. Raymond averaged a 187 but was ranked lower because she only bowled five of the ten game while Christine King was 59th, bowling the other five games and averaging a 171.

 

 

The tournament average was a 177.59.

UMES takes the hot performance into this weekend's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships held in Norfolk, Va. March 23-25. The Hawks are looking to repeat as MEAC Champions and claim their third title overall.
