Houston, Texas - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Bowling Team got a slow start on Friday morning falling in the opening round of the NCAA Women's Bowling Championship. The fourth seeded Hawks fell to the fifth seeded Bulldogs of Alabama A & M University four games to one.

UMES fell in game one 198-181 but turned on in game two to knock the Bulldogs down 204-148.

Alabama A & M went on to topple the Hawks in games three (193-176), four (203-180) and five (197-171).

The match was played in a best of seven Baker game format. UMES had seven bowlers see action in round one as Head Coach Sharon Brummell tried to find the correct combination of bowlers.

"We missed some spares that we shouldn't have," said Brummell. "We have to make those and not get down on ourselves, we beat NJCU last time out and we can do it again."

The Hawks take on New Jersey City University (NJCU) at 10:30 am central in the elimination bracket in the same seven game Baker format.
