Orlando, Fla - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Bowling team regrouped in the afternoon to bowl a respectable 20 game set of Baker games. The comeback wasn't enough as the seeding round ended and UMES would remain in seventh place. They will play second seeded Farleigh Dickinson (FDU) tomorrow in round one. In game one the Hawks took on Fayetteville State University and easily handed them what would be a loss if records were counted. The Hawks rolled a high game of 209 and defeated the Broncos 912-812. In game two the Hawks took on the Knights of FDU. They posted their highest game of the day in that match with a 236 but fell 1094-959. The Hawks faced the soon to be top seed of Nebraska in game three, falling 1075-979 with a high game of 210. In the final five-game set UMES took on the Broncos again, rolling a 922 to their 825. UMES, who rolls the Baker game format well, was unable to repeat their perfect game from last season's NCAA Championships. UMES is still the only NCAA team to have rolled a perfect Baker game. This is especially impressive because the Baker game format requires 12 consecutive strikes with the lead bowler rolling frames one and six while the anchor, or fifth bowler, rolls the number five and ten frames. UMES posted a 3,772 in the Baker games, adding to their 3,735 from the individual rankings. That 7,507 total would put them in seventh, 1,011 pins out of first. "Obviously I am disappointed," said Head Coach Sharon Brummell. "We can bowl better than we did, but tomorrow is another day and we here because we are one of the top in the country, we can beat any of these teams if we bowl how we are capable of bowling." The Hawks are at it again tomorrow at 8:00 am taking on FDU in Baker game format at Wekiva Lanes in Orlando. View the complete Baker game results here.
