Nov. 14, 2005 Dover, Del. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Bowling Team had another successful outing this past weekend, again taking on the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division schools, this time in Dover, Del. The Hawks went 7-2, improving their overall record to 22-6 on the young season. The Hawks opened the day on Saturday, November 12, 2005 knocking off the first four teams they faced before dropping the final contest of the day. UMES opened the day with wins over Hampton (1027-851), Howard (1021-928), Coppin State (forfeit) and Morgan State (1046-890). Their lone loss on day one was to the pesky Hornets of Delaware State University (DSU) who topped the Lady Hawks 987-921. Freshman Jamie Culbreth rolled the high game of the day with a 257 against Morgan State while Christine King tallied a 236 and Sandra Maresca a 200 in that game. Also rolling in the 200's were: King with a 233 against Hampton and a 204 against Howard, Laura Zanrucha with a 202 against Howard, Maresca with a 224 vs. Hampton and a 217 against Howard, Jessica Worsley with a 216 vs. Hampton, Maryetta Lewis with a 214 vs. Howard, Megan Raymond with a 212 against Coppin State, Culbreth with a 213 vs. Delaware State and Kristie Minnis with a 237 vs. Coppin State. On day two the Lady Hawks again rattled off wins against the first three opponents. They topped Morgan State 1013-816, Coppin State 865-684 and Howard 1116-1027. The eleven hundred score is the best for the Hawks this season. Just as it was the first day the Hawks ended the day with a loss to DSU, 1039-994.
The second day saw Raymond as the high scorer, totaling a 279 against Howard. Zanrucha rolled a 208 against Coppin State, Maresca a 214 against Morgan State, Worsley a 204 against DSU and Lewis with a 209 vs. Morgan State and a 247 against Howard. Culbreth was still hot rolling over 200 in all three games she bowled in. She racked up a 235 against Howard, a 221 against Morgan State and a 225 against DSU. For the weekend the Hawks had four bowlers average over 200. Culbreth averaged a 224, Raymond a 210, Maresca a 204 and King a 202. The other Hawks above 190 were as follows: Zanrucha, 191, Worsley, 198, Lewis, 199, and Minnis, 192. UMES is back in action this coming weekend as they host their own tournament, the Eastern Shore Hawk Classic in Millsboro, Del. featuring 20 NCAA Division I teams. |
