ST. LOUIS, MO.--The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Bowling Team bowled their way into St. Louis, Mo. this past weekend competing in the 2005 National Collegiate Team Match Games. Their trip was a successful one, as they picked up seven wins, only dropped one contest, and finished ninth in the field of 30 teams.

The Hawks totaled 8718 total pins, 1,433 pins out of first place. That top spot was held by Wichita State University. They averaged 997 pins per team game while the Hawks managed a respectable 879. Ninth place is the highest the Hawks have ever placed in this event as the top eight teams advance to compete for the National Team Match games title.

The biggest story was the Hawks seven wins, much needed in the NCAA standings. They improve their season mark to 33-12. On day one the Hawks opened with a battle against Louisiana Tech University and topped them 845-761. Their next match was their only loss, a 913-943 defeat at the hands of the 2004 National Championship runner-up Central Missouri State University (CMSU). They went on to top Texas Southern (820-726), Southern (869-849) and Grambling (953-790).

Individually the Hawks got a high game of 236 against Grambling from sophomore sensation Jessica Worsley. Other two hundred games came from Maryetta Lewis with a 200 against that same team and again from Worsley with a 210 vs. Southern. Megan Raymond added the other over 200 game with a 203 vs. Louisiana Tech.

On day two the Hawks added three more wins. Louisiana Tech was defeated 885-656, Texas Southern 931-897 and a big revenge win over CMSU 834-809. On day two freshman Laura Zanrucha dominated against Texas Southern with a 233 while Raymond added a 215. Lewis also tallied a 205 against Louisiana Tech. Zanrucha's score was the highest rolled over the weekend by a Hawk.
