BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The two-time defending National Champions will make their 2013 debut this weekend, heading to Brooklyn, N.Y. to compete in the fifth annual Terrier New Year Knockdown on Saturday and Sunday, January 19th and 20th. The event is hosted by the 18th ranked Terriers of St. Francis (N.Y.) at their home facility of Strike 10 Lanes and features eight total squads in attendance.

"This will be a good test for us," said head coach Kristina Frahm. "While not on our original schedule, the cancellation of the FDU N.J. Jamboree allowed us to add this tournament and will give us some much needed competition after a long holiday break."

Six of the eight teams in attendance are ranked in the NTCA Coaches poll, including the second-ranked Hawks. It also includes #9 Wisconsin-Whitewater, #10 Kutztown, #12 Sacred Heart, #16 Long Island and unranked Delaware State and Hampton Universities. Both UMES and Delaware State are making their second straight appearance while Hampton is the veteran of the event, having bowled in all five along with the host.

On Saturday, the teams will determine a traditional champion based upon total pinfall as well as a Most Valuable Player and All-Tournament Team based upon individuals with the highest average in Saturday's traditional matches.

On Sunday, they will determine a Baker team champion based upon total pinfall. In addition, we will determine first, second, and third place teams based upon total pinfall for the two-day tournament. This format was devised to allow teams to participate in 12 NCAA matches over a two-day period.

So far this season UMES has led each day they have competed, which includes two MEAC Northern Division match-ups and the Hawk Classic, featuring 18 of the nation's top teams. Valerie Riggin (Vista, Calif.), Anggie Ramirez (Bogota, Colombia) and Megan Buja (Rockford, Ill.) have all earned MEAC Bowler of the Week honors and will lead the Lady Hawks into the event.
