VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (UMES) has named junior bowler Martha Perez (Bogota, Colombia) its MEAC Bowling Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 17, 2010 the conference recently announced. Perez led the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's bowling team to an 11-3 record and first-place in the Arkansas State Mid-Winter Invite with a pinfall of 1,084 in team games. That equals out to an average of 216.8 over five games. She posted highs of 237 against Stephen F. Austin and a season high 251 in a win over #6 Nebraska, the reigning National Champions. Perez was named to the All-Tournament Team along with Kristina Frahm (Oswego, Ill.) who also made the squad. She posted a pinfall of 1,077 and an average of 215.4. Teammate Paula Vilas (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) led the field in average with a 220.33 over three games. Both were named Other Top Performers by the league. UMES is back in action this weekend at the Lady Bulldog Classic in Bowie, Md.
