VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Martha Perez (Bogota, Colombia) has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Athlete of the Week for the second straight week, the league announced today. Perez shares the honor this week with Florida A&M's Samantha Mighty. Perez has led her team to two straight tournament wins and a 21-3 mark over the last two weeks. Most recently she knocked down 1,065 total pins and averaged 213 to earn a nod on the Fred Underwood Lady Bulldog Classic All-Tournament. She finished second overall, only to Mighty at the event. The 5-9 junior rolled a 278 in a win over Lincoln (Pa.) to set a new collegiate career high. More importantly Perez has been the spark as UMES, the nation's number two team, went 10-0 last week to improve to 66-18 on the year. Last week she helped them to an 11-3 record and first-place in the Arkansas State Mid-Winter Invite with a pinfall of 1,084 in team games. That equals out to an average of 216.8 over five games. Maria Rodriguez (Ibague Tolima, Colombia) earned a selection as an Other Top Performer, the league announced. She finished fourth overall at Bowie State with a 208.6 average and an All-Tournament Team honor. UMES is back in action this weekend at the Kutztown Invite, hosted by Kutztown University.
