NORFOLK, Va. - University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) freshman Sara Pelayo (Distrito Federal, Mexico) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Athlete of the Week, the league announced today.

Pelayo led all Hawk bowlers this weekend in team games, finishing tied for eighth overall with an average of a 200.4. She was one of just nine bowlers in the 80 woman field to average over 200 on the tough oil patterns at the International Training and Research Center (ITRC) in Arlington, Texas.

She tossed a high game of a 226 in the match with Texas Southern and in Baker matches on days one and three she tallied 15 strikes and 17 spares in 24 games of play.

This is the second time this season that Pelayo has earned the honor. She is averaging a 198 in team games with a season-high game of a 243. She has bowled in 66 of the Hawks' 73 matches this season.

UMES has earned five MEAC Bowler of the Week honors this season.

Pelayo leads UMES back into action next week, February 14-16 in Houston, Texas at the Kat Kalsh.
