VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) sophomore sensation Maria Rodriguez, (Ibague Tolima, Colombia) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 15, 2009. She led the Lady Hawks to an 8-2 mark and a fourth place finish at the Morgan State Invitational this past weekend. UMES, ranked fourth nationally, trailed the top three teams in the polls, Vanderbilt, Nebraska and Fairleigh Dickinson in the final tournament standings. She averaged a 204 on a 1,020 pin fall and posted three plus games of 200 or more. This is the fourth time Rodriguez has earned the award this season. The 2008 All-American also rolled a 216 against Bowie State for her highest pin fall of the day. Rodriguez's play, along with the rest of the Hawks', improved UMES to a 90-28 mark on the season. The Lady Hawks are back in action in two weeks at the Holiday Classic in Bessemer, Alabama.
