VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's (UMES) Laura Zanrucha (Jr., Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley H.S.) was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 16, the league announced Wednesday. Zanrucha guided the second ranked Lady Hawks to an 8-2 mark and a third place finish at the Morgan State Invitational. Zanrucha finished 11th overall and highest among UMES bowlers in a field that featured over 100 competitors with a 204.8 average. She totaled three 200-plus games in the event, including a high of 221 in the win over #17 St. Peter's. In five games played during the tournament she knocked down a total of 1,024 pins. Zanrucha was finally selected for the honor after being named to the All-Tournament Team at the Capital Classic last week and receiving recognition by the MEAC as an `Other Top Performer.' This is the eighth time a UMES bowler has earned the award. UMES will next head to the lanes when they travel to Bessemer, Ala. to participate in the Holiday Classic on March 1 and 2.
