RODRIGUEZ, ALSTON NAMED UMES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Sophomore Maria Rodriguez (Ibague Tolima, Colombia) and freshman Elliott Alston (Littleton, Colo.) have been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Athletes of the Week for the period ending March 1.
Rodriquez, of the No. 4 women's bowling team, helped lead the Lady Hawks to an 8-4 record last weekend at the Holiday Classic in Bessemer, Ala. She finished sixth out of a field of 200 bowlers, averaging 200.33 pins and just missed a place on the all-tournament team.
Rodriquez reached 200 or more pins in half of the 12 games she bowled with a high game of 248 against Grand Canyon.
UMES (98-32) returns to action at the ECAC Championships March 6-8 in East Brunswick, N.J.
Alston, of the baseball team, batted .364 in six games last week. The Hawks picked up a pair of wins over Niagara as Alston tallied eight hits and five RBIs. Alston's best outing came Feb. 25. He was 5-for-6 with a home run in an 11-inning loss to Lehigh.
The Hawks (2-6) travel to George Washington March 5 for their first road game of the season at 2:30 p.m.
