HAWK KEGLERS IN ACTION IN MUSIC CITY
March 7, 2014
NASHVILLE - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's bowling team is in action today Smyrna, Tenn., through Sunday, March 7-9, for the Music City Classic, an event they won last season, bowling in it for the first time.
The Hawks will take the momentum of their first-place finish in the third MEAC Northern Division Meet last weekend and try to continue to build. That win last weekend helped them clinch MEAC Northern Division title for the fourth time. Last year UMES topped Arkansas State in the championship match. Central Missouri's Natalie Jiminez earned tournament MVP honors with Kelly Daunno of New Jersey City, Kristina Terpo of St. Francis (NY), Liz Kuhlkin of Nebraska, Anggie Ramirez (Bogota, Colombia) of UMES and Michelle Secours of Sam Houston State making the all-tournament team. That was the Hawks' only appearance at the event, the host Commodores have won just two of the previous nine events (2009 & 2010). Last season they were third. In 2014, the field features 29 teams, including 19 of the top 20 teams in the nation. Only No. 18 Norfolk State is missing from the field.
UMES will bowl six 4-game Baker matches today and will six team games on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. (ET). The event concludes Sunday with three best-of-seven- Baker matches, starting again at 9:30 a.m. (ET). Bowl.com with Lucas Wiseman will be on hand to stream matches live.
