NASHVILLE - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's bowling team remained in third place in the latest National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) coaches' poll, the organization announced earlier this week. The Lady Hawks (78-19) garnered 643 points to stand in third place behind second-place Nebraska who earned 679 points.

The first place went again to Arkansas State who earned 800 points as the unanimous choice as the NCAA's No. 1 ranked bowling team. Central Missouri (629 points, 77-26) was fourth while Fairleigh Dickinson (625 points 84-25) dropped to fifth place.

Vanderbilt jumped to sixth after winning their own Music City Classic. Sam Houston State, Wisconsin-Whitewater, Stephen F. Austin and St. Francis (Pa.) round out the top ten.

While the poll has no bearing on the NCAA tournament field, the top ten teams are usually the ones in contention for the selection. The NCAA will make the announcement in ncaa.com on Wednesday March 26, at 4:00 p.m. (ET).

In the current media poll from the NTCA UMES is ranked second overall.

Fellow MEAC schools North Carolina A&T, Delaware State and Norfolk State also earned votes and are in 13th, 17th and 19th places respectively.

UMES is back in action this weekend March 21-23 in Chesapeake, Va. when they look to defend their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championship.
