UMES BOWLING HEADS TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS RANKED 7TH IN THE COUNTRY

HACKENSACK, NJ - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Bowling Team is on their way to Houston, Texas for their third NCAA National Championships in as many years of existence. They enter ranked the #7 team in the country according to the latest National Tenpins Coaches Association Poll; up one spot from the previous poll.

For the second consecutive poll, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln was the unanimous choice as the top ranked team in the nation by the National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA). This is the third and final poll of the 2005-06 season that will be conducted by NTCA, the voice and leadership of NCAA women's bowling.

With the NCAA national championships looming this weekend in Houston, TX, the Huskers are looking to win their third consecutive title after winning head every tournament they entered this season, including the Music City Invitational in Nashville, TN and the BRC Windy City Invitational in Chicago, IL since the last poll was released. Nebraska-Lincoln finished the regular season with a 65-10 win-loss record in NCAA head-to-head matches.

The next four ranked teams go unchanged from the last poll. Fairleigh Dickinson University of Teaneck, NJ is ranked second after ending the season with an 82-15 record. Ranked third is Central Missouri State University of Warrensburg, MO, the NCAA championship runner-up for the past two seasons. The Jennies, concluded their season with a 77-20-1 record. The fourth ranked team is New Jersey City University of Jersey City, NJ (72-29-1), and rounding out the top five is Vanderbilt University of Nashville, TN (53-36).

The remaining teams in the top ten are the University of Alabama A&M of Huntsville, AL (30-15-2); the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore of Princess Ann, MD (74-37); Bethune-Cookman College of Daytona Beach, FL (58-18); Arkansas State University of Jonesboro, AR (59-42-3); and Southern University of Baton Rouge, LA (47-31-1).

The top eight ranked teams were selected for the NCAA national championship tournament that will begin on Thursday, April 13, 2006 and conclude on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at Emerald Bowl in Houston, TX.
