NASHVILLE, TN - Senior bowler Maryetta Lewis gave the Hawk bowling team their first ever All-American as she was named to the Honorable Mention list of All-Americans released by the National Ten Pin Coaches Association. The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) placed four bowlers on the All-Northeast Region team last week, with Lewis earning first team honors in that selection. Voting was conducted by membership of the NTCA.

Lewis was named to several All-Tournament teams this season including the 2006 United State Bowling Congress (USBC) All-Tournament Team where the Hawks came home third in the nation. She helped lead the Hawks to their second Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship as well as their third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament where they qualified fourth. Lewis, a team captain for the Lady Hawks, averaged a 190 for the season and was more than just a solid bowler but a motivator and leader on the squad.

"What an honor," said Head Coach Sharon Brummell. "The team had a great season and [Lewis] was a big part of that, I am thrilled for her, she deserves the honor, and I am excited to see our team get this recognition as well."

The following is the official release from the National Tenpin Coaches Associaiton.

Lisa Friscioni of NCAA champion Fairleigh Dickinson University and Lindsay Baker of two-time champion University of Nebraska headlined the 2006 All-America bowling team while Mike LoPresti of Fairleigh Dickinson and Frank Parisi of New Jersey City University were named "Coach of the Year" in Division I and II/III respectively as announced today by the National Ten Pin Coaches Association.

Baker, who's 215 average was the best in the country this year, edged Friscioni in tight balloting for the NTCA "Player of the Year" Award as both were named to the first team. Other first-team selections were Michelle Peloquin of Vanderbilt, Bryanna Caldwell of Central Missouri and Amanda Burgoyne of Nebraska. Peloquin was a run-away winner for national "Rookie of the Year" honors and was the only freshman on the first team.

The NTCA All-America second team included Whitney Smith of national runner-up Alabama A&M along with Kristina Szalay of Fairleigh Dickinson, Jamie Martin of Nebraska, Tina Peak of Central Missouri and Vicki Spratford of New Jersey City.

Six women were named to the honorable mention list. They included Alex McIntyre of Alabama A&M, Tara Kane of Vanderbilt, Becky Ketcham of Fairleigh Dickinson, Karen Syrocki of Arkansas State University, Maryetta Lewis from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Shanice Graham of Alabama A&M University.
