Rockford, Ill. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Bowling Team had high hopes of a National Title for the 2004-2005 season. They were dashed at the NCAA Championships earlier this month but the Lady Hawks took those dreams to the Intercollegiate Bowling Championships hoping for a better finish. It wasn't to be. UMES was eliminated from the competition after two tough head to head matches.

After 16 games, the first qualifying round, the Hawks sat in tenth place with a pin fall of 2,849, just 315 pins behind Wichita State. After the next round, 32 total games, the Lady Hawks had picked it up and were in eight overall. They had a total of 5,809 and were 383 pins back. They had moved up but allowed Wichita State to increase their lead.

In a sixteen-team field the Lady Hawks had to face the number nine seed of McKendree College who had totaled just 21 pins less than the Hawks. McKendree had the momentum, topping UMES four games to one. They fell, 201-149, 181-131, 188-183, 189-194 and 202-190. The loss dropped the Hawks to the Contenders Bracket where they would face the #16 seed Erie Community College. The Hawks were off their game and fell to Erie 4-2. The scores were 210-183, 234-181, 245-183, 151-158, 154-183 and 157-143.

Despite strong qualifying games of 231, 204, 212, 243, 207, 234 and several others, the Lady Hawks never really got on track. They look to build on their two National Championship appearances next season when the quest for a MEAC title and an NCAA title begin anew.
