PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Sharon Brummell, head coach for women's bowling, is pleased to announce the signing of three bowlers who will join the team for the 2009-10 academic season.

Anggie Ramirez is a left-handed freshman from Bogota, Columbia who has been bowling for approximately nine years. Ramirez has a very impressive resume as she placed ninth overall in the 2009 World Games in Kaohsiung, China at the end of July with an average of 197.4 pins. She has also been Bogota's Junior Champion eight times in different youth categories and this past year placed second in the Bogota's Adults Championship. Additionally, she has been twice named the National Youth Champion.

"I am extremely excited to have signed Anggie," exclaimed Brummell. "She has tremendous experience on the national level which will add depth to our team and she was very highly recruited."

Katie Shumaker, who is also a freshman, is a native of Trafford, Penn. and graduated from Penn-Trafford High School in June. While at PTHS, Shumaker was a two-year captain and earned First Team All-State for two years and First Team All WPIBL for three years. She was also a three year qualifier for both Individual and Team State Championships and has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Greater Pittsburgh USBC Youth since 2005.

"Katie is a very hard-working individual," stated Coach Brummell, "and we are thrilled to have her join us at UMES."

Stacy Parsons is a sophomore transfer from Saint Peter's College in Jersey City, N.J. Originally from Delran, N.J., she had a season high of 268 on December 6, 2008 against Livingstone and a traditional season average of 175.58 while bowling for the Peahens.

"We are delighted to have Stacy join us," commented Coach Brummell. "She is a very solid bowler and has collegiate experience which will benefit both her and the team. She was their anchor so she knows pressure and what it takes to win."

UMES will open their season October 31 at the Fright Knight Invite in Elmwood Park, N.J., an event hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University.
