Sept. 15, 2008 PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The National Champion Lady Hawks have signed top pick from the Western Pennsylvania regional team, Christine Benson (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem H.S.) and Illinois regional standout Kaitlyn Young (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore H.S.). The two join the returning National Rookie of the Year Kristin Frahm and Second-Team All-American Maria Rodriguez, as well as five other outstanding bowlers looking to repeat as National Champions. Benson led her team to a first place finish in the Western Pennsylvania Regional Championships and a fourth place finish in the Pennsylvania State Championship.
"Christy is a strong, young bowler," said Women's Bowling Head Coach Sharon Brummell. "We're looking forward to her adding depth." A two-time captain, Benson finished third in state and second at regional's last season. She held the third highest game and series during the regular season and highest series at the regional championships. At the club level she qualified for the Teen Masters National Championships in Las Vegas and had the overall high game, series and average in 2008. Her career high is 289 and series high is 764. Young is a three-time bowling MVP. As a four year varsity letter winner, she bowled the first perfect game in school history and then went on to place fifth in the state. A three-time all conference individual bowler, Young has proven herself to be consistent. "She is very steady," said Brummell. "Kaitlyn is coming in with a little more experience. I'm really looking for her step up and be a starter. She is really excited about coming in and making an immediate impact." Planning on majoring in Criminal Justice, Young is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and was a Student of the Month. She does mission work through her church and is on the youth ministry team. After having been contacted by several colleges, Young visited two before coming to Princess Anne. Upon arrival, her decision was made. "I said, no more," stated Young. "I'm not looking any further."
