UMES BOWLING TOPS PRE-SEASON MEDIA POLL
Oct. 17, 2012
HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The Two-Time Defending National Champion Lady Hawks of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) are poised for another great season as they sit on top of both the media and coaches pre-season polls. The National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) released their pre-season media poll recently and it nearly duplicates the coaches' poll, perching UMES at the top.
The Hawks earned 11 first-place votes and 349 total points.
Just like the coaches' poll, Arkansas State was predicted second with two first-place votes and 308 total points. Unlike the other poll, The Red Wolves and the Hawks are the only teams to earn first-place votes.
Fairleigh Dickinson University, who were the runner-up to the Hawks in last season's championship, was predicted third with 305 points, just shy of ASU. Vanderbilt was fourth and Nebraska was fifth.
Other teams of note in the poll were Norfolk State in 11th, Bethune-Cookman in 17th and Delaware State in 20th, all representing the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
The Hawks return four of their five starters, including All-Americans Anggie Ramirez (Bogota, Colombia) and T'nia Falbo (Greensburg, Pa.), the reigning conference Player of the Year. UMES opens their season in November at the FDU New Jersey Jamboree.
