The 2009-10 Lady Hawks are predicted to win another MEAC title.

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - For the second straight season, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's bowling team was picked to win the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Northern Division. The conference has only announced pre-season bowling accolades for the last two years.

In a poll of MEAC head coaches and sports information directors, released recently by the conference; UMES received 240 points and 17 out of 21 possible first place votes. Delaware State University, who tied with UMES for a share of the northern division title, received 198 points and the other four remaining first place votes.

Norfolk State University was predicted to win the southern division with 209 points and 10 first place votes. Florida A&M, who eliminated UMES from the hunt for last season's tournament title, was picked to be second in their division with 199 points and six first place votes.

UMES, a four time MEAC Champion and the 2008 NCAA Champion is currently ranked fourth in pre-season poll by the National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) and finished the 2008-09 campaign with a 25-5 conference record and 115-41 overall mark. They return three starters and add four newcomers to the squad.

The Lady Hawks open play this weekend, October 30, 31 and November 1 at the Fright Knight Invite hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU). The Knights are ranked third in the pre-season NTCA poll. Fellow NEC conference members, #8 New Jersey City and #9 Sacred Heart will also open their season at the event.
