VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced its 2009-10 preseason honors and the Lady Hawks of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) have secured some of the top honors. Junior Maria Rodriguez (Ibague Tolima, Colombia) was named to the conference's Preseason All-MEAC Team and earned the Preseason Bowler of the Year nod. Joining her on the preseason team was junior Kristina Frahm (Oswego, Ill.). Frahm and Rodriguez, both two-time National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) All-Americans, expect to lead UMES back into the National Title hunt, trying to duplicate the feat they accomplished as freshmen in 2008, winning the NCAA Championship. Rodriguez, the 2008-09 MEAC Bowler of the Year and first-team selection, averaged a 199.73 over 74 games last season and tallied a pinfall of 14,780. Her high game was a 279 in NCAA competition but that feat was toppled this past summer when bowling for her home country of Colombia she rolled a perfect game of 300 at the World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA) Championships in Las Vegas. Frahm, also a 2008-09 All-MEAC selection, knocked down 12,606 pins on her way to a 188.15 average in 67 games. She had a high of a 258. She earned the singles ECAC Title last season topping Fairleigh Dickinson's Erica Perez 213-178. Both were MEAC Bowlers of the Week four times. The all-conference team selections are voted on by the MEAC's head bowling coaches and sports information directors. Rodriguez and Frahm lead the Hawks into action today at the Fright Knight Invite hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University, through Nov. 1.
