UMES' SARA PELAYO NAMED MEAC BOWLER OF THE WEEK

NORFOLK, Va. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's (UMES) freshman sensation Sara Pelayo (Distrito Federal, Mexico) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Making her collegiate debut, Pelayo worked her way through the lineup over the first two days of the tournament before settling in at anchor on day three. There she anchored the team to wins over Valparaiso and Adelphi. In the match against Valparaiso, Pelayo need a strike on the fill ball of the tenth frame to tie game three. Down 2-0, she crossed over and got the strike Brooklyn style, tying the game and taking the momentum of the match and propelling UMES to wins in games four through seven to secure the win.
The previous day she rolled a high-game of a 216 in the loss to Stephen F. Austin. She averaged a 193 for the day and finished 18th out of 133 bowlers at the FDU New Jersey Jamboree. In the Red Pool she finished seventh overall
Pelayo leads the Hawks into the weekend's conference opener in Dover, Del. They will play the five other teams from the MEAC Northern Division in five team and five Baker matches.
