UMES' MARIANA ALVARADO NAMED MEAC BOWLER OF THE WEEK

NORFOLK, Va. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's (UMES) junior All-American Mariana Alvarado (Leon, Mexico) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Alvarado led the UMES charge to a 9-1 mark in their first MEAC Northern Division Meet of the season last weekend in Dover, Del. UMES went a perfect 5-0 in Baker games this past Sunday and propelled the Hawks to an 11-0 in Bakers this season and 18-4 overall.
In team games Alvarado was dominant, averaging a 211.2 over five matches and rolled over 200 in four of the five matches with a high game of a 236 in the loss to Delaware State.
This is the second straight week a Hawk has won the honor. Freshman Sara Pelayo (Distrito Federal, Mexico) earned the honor last week.
The pair will lead UMES into action this weekend in Millsboro, Del. when they host the annual Hawk Classic sponsored by Brunswick. The Hawks will face off against 16 other teams from across the nation, including many in the top-20 in the polls. The action starts at noon on November 15 and continues through mid-day on Sunday November 17, 2013.
