NORFOLK, Va. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's (UMES) senior Academic All-American Megan Buja (Rockford, Ill.) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It is the first selection for Buja this season and the third consecutive for a Hawk bowler.

Buja was on it all weekend at the Hawk Classic, held November 15-17, 2013. The lone senior, bowling in her final home event, led the charge, literally and figuratively as she not only bowled lead-off all weekend for the Hawks, but was their standout kegler. Buja finished second overall in the field of more than 114 bowlers, averaging a 209.6 pinfall and a high game of a 249.

More importantly, Buja led the Lady Hawks to their first tournament win of the season and a 12-1 record at the Hawk Classic, sponsored by Brunswick. She led-off al 13 matches.

The wins improve UMES to 30-5 on the young season. The Hawks take over two weeks off before bowling in the second MEAC Northern Division match-up, hosted by Hampton University. UMES went 9-1 in the first match-up two weeks ago.
