HACKENSACK, N.J. - The December poll for the National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) is released and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's bowling team has climbed up the rankings to the second spot. UMES trails only Vanderbilt who took over the top spot from Nebraska.

The Lady Hawks (39-11), fresh off a third place finish in the Eastern Shore Hawk Classic and second at the National Collegiate Team Match games in the previous two weekends, earned 472 points, trailing the Commodores by just 56 points. UMES also received two first place votes.

Vanderbilt (29-10) tallied 14 first place votes while Delaware State (36-10) and the University of Nebraska (13-11) had one each. Nebraska, who was the previous number one team in the poll, fell to sixth overall.

Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) rival Delaware State moved up to third overall with 441 points, trailing UMES by 31 points. Arkansas State (26-14) is fourth with 399 points and Fairleigh Dickinson (19-13), who was third, dropped to fifth with 391 points.

MEAC members Norfolk State (29-14) entered the poll at 19th and Morgan State (21-25) fell to 20th from 15th.

NTCA voters rank the top 20 teams on their ballot. Each position has a designated point value, ranging from 32 points for first place and one point for twentieth place. Teams are ranked using the adjusted total point standings, after the highest and lowest votes are dropped.
