Dec. 13, 2006 Dover, Del. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Bowling Team moved up to 6th in the latest version of the National Tenpins Coaches Association Poll. The Hawks record stands currently at 38-5 and they are coming off a 15-0 1st place finish in the Le Tiger Classic. The folloing release appears compliments of the NTCA. Fairleigh Dickinson University of Teaneck, NJ, the defending national champions, remained as the top ranked NCAA women's bowling team in the country, and Vanderbilt University of Nashville, TN jumped to the number two spot, in the latest national poll conducted by the National Tenpins Coaches Association, the voice and leadership of NCAA bowling. This is the second of six monthly polls scheduled for the 2006-07 season by the NTCA. Fairleigh Dickinson received 10 out of a possible 17 first place votes to lead the poll for the second consecutive release. Since the beginning of the season, the Knights have a 28-4 record in NCAA matches; have won the Cheeseland Classic in Whitewater, WI; have finished in third place at the UMES Hawk Classic in Millsboro, DE; and have taken an early lead in the Northeast Women's Collegiate Bowling Conference (NEWCBC). Vanderbilt collected five first place votes and gained the highest national ranking that the third-year program achieved. The Commodores have a 21-3 season match record, have attained a third place finish at the Cheeseland Classic, and have captured the program's first independent tournament championship at the UMES Hawk Classic, since the start of the season. The University of Nebraska - Lincoln, winners of the 2004 and 2005 national championships, was ranked third, receiving one first place vote. The Huskers own a 20-6 season match record, which includes victories in their last 14 straight. UNL has also finished second at the Cheeseland Classic, and won the Maverick Classic in Chicago, IL. The University of Central Missouri of Warrensburg, MO and New Jersey City University of Jersey City, NJ have been ranked fourth and fifth, respectively. Thus far this season, Central Missouri, 21-6-1, finished third at the Maverick Classic and won the Jeannette Lee Invitational in Lawrenceville, VA. This season, NJCU, 25-5, has taken home second place trophies at the UMES Hawk Classic and Jeannette Lee Invitational and sits in second place in the NEWCBC, as well. The remainder of the top 10 is led by sixth ranked University of Maryland - Eastern Shore of Princess Ann, MD. The Hawks (38-5) won the Le'Tiger Classic championship in Houston, TX this season. Ranked seventh was Alabama A&M University of Normal, AL, the 2006 national runner-up. The Bulldogs (19-9) finished second at the Maverick Classic. Ranked eighth was Texas Southern University of Houston, TX. The Lady Tigers (30-5) are in first place in the South Western Athletic Conference. The ninth ranked squad was Sacred Heart University of Fairfield, CT. The Pioneers (15-5) are in third place in the NEWCBC. In tenth place was Minnesota State-Mankato, MN. The Mavericks are 15-11, including eight victories versus ranked teams.
