ALL FIVE HAWKS FINISH IN TOP 15 OF COLOMBIAN NATIONALS

BOGOTA, Colombia - After 32 more intense games, all five current and former Hawk bowlers showed why they are among the best in the world, taking top 15 finishes in the Colombian National Team Tryouts this past week, December 12-15. Anggie Ramirez (Bogota), a two-time All-American selection finished third overall after leading the pack into the final block.
Currently a senior for the Hawks, Ramirez tallied 1,519 pins in the block and 13,047 overall to average an impressive 203.86. Ramirez bested last year's 13th place finish and was second overall in 2010. She, along with former NTCA National Player of the Year Maria Rodriguez (Ibague Tolima), who was fifth overall, earned spots on the National Team for the upcoming year. Ramirez, who has twice won the event, tallied 12,452 pins to average 194.56.
UMES had a strong presence with current Hawks Tatiana Munoz (Ibague Tolima) and Valentina Collazos (Cali) taking 11th and 14th respectively. Former Hawk and two-time All-American Martha Perez (Bogota) was 15th. Munoz came on strong to nearly grab a top ten spot. She averaged a 189.33 while Collzos was just under that with a 184.53 and Perez a 183.53. Munoz jumped from 22nd to 11th in the final block and averaged almost 14 pins more per game.
The quintet are part of 45 women from seven federations - Antioquia, Bogota, Cundinmarca, Quindio, Risaralda, Tolima and Valle that will bowled 64 games overall, on seven different WTBA patterns that determined the top six women who earned automatic spots n the National team.
Rocio Restrepo won the event averaging a 211.70 while Clara Guerrero was second with a 205.97. Along with Ramirez, they were the only three to average over 200 in the event.
The Colombian quintet will stay in Colombia for the UMES academic holiday with the three current Hawks returning over the winter to get back to the lanes at the New Year Knockdown in Brooklyn, N.Y. January 19-20. Perez will also return to UMES to continue her graduate studies.
