Sam Douglas is in his fifth year overall as Head Softball Coach at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. During the 2009 season, Douglas was named the MEAC Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Hawks to their first 20-win season since 1996 and their first winning season in more than six years with a 20-18 record.

He is no stranger to Hawk Athletics, as this is his second stint as Head Coach of the softball program. More recently, Douglas was the first assistant under then head coach Kirkland Hall from 2004-06.

Douglas was both the Head Soccer Coach and Assistant Softball Coach at UMES from 1991-97. He was promoted to Head Softball Coach in 1998. In that position Douglas was responsible for directing all aspects of the program including the organizing and planning of team practices, recruitment, scheduling, budgeting, and team travel.

The Hamilton Parish, Bermuda native received his Bachelor's Degree from UMES in 1991.
