GREENSBORO, N.C. – On day two of the North Carolina A&T Tournament, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) softball team was unable to pick-up back-to-back wins as they fell to the host team, North Carolina A&T State University (NCAT), 9-1.

With the loss, the Lady Hawks fell to 1-6 overall whereas NCAT improved to 3-2 on the young season.

Maryland Eastern Shore could not duplicate the same offensive explosion similar to yesterday’s contest versus Rider University as they only scored one run on five hits. Emily Diseroad (Manchester Valley, Md.) was the lone Hawk to record multiple hits in the game, going 2-of-3. Carmen Frazier (Montgomery Village, Md.) drove in the only RBI for the Lady Hawks.

Trailing, 1-0, after the first inning, Trenece Nash (Decatur, Ga.) had a lead-off single, followed by Ciara Schnyder (Arcadia, Calif.) being hit-by-a-pitch in the top of the second inning. With no outs and bases loaded after Kaitlyn Hitch reached on an error, Frazier grounded out to second base to bring home Nash for the Lady Hawks first run of the contest.

Unfortunately, this would be Maryland Eastern Shore only run as the Lady Aggies’ Maiven McKnight pitched a stellar game. McKnight gave up one run in five innings while striking out three Lady Hawks in the victory.

After being tied, 1-1, North Carolina A&T regained the lead and never looked back as they scored five runs in the next three innings to take a commanding lead, 6-1. UMES battled, but were unsuccessful in producing any offense. NCAT ended the contest early after scoring three more runs in the sixth inning to win, 9-1.

For the Lady Aggies, they recorded 12 hits, led by Kimberly Brunson going a perfect 3-of-3 in the game. Dasia Moore and Tranea Jones each registered two RBIs in the win.

Tomorrow (02/23), Maryland Eastern Shore wraps-up the tournament versus Morgan State University and a re-match with Rider University. Game-times are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. (EST)
