CONWAY, S.C. – On the final day of the Coastal Carolina Invitational, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) softball team was shutout by the host team, Coastal Carolina University (CCU), 9-0. The Lady Hawks could not secure a victory in the three-day tournament as they went 0-5 overall.

With today’s setback, Maryland Eastern Shore fell to 2-12 overall while CCU improved to 11-4 on the young season.

A solid pitching performance from the Chanticleers held the Lady Hawks to only two hits on the afternoon. Emily Diseroad (Manchester Valley, Md.) and Cherokee Williams (Upper Marlboro, Md.) were the lone UMES players to record a hit.

Kory Hayden gave Coastal Carolina an early lead, 2-0, after a two-run blast in the first inning. The Chanticleers put a rally together in the second as they scored six more runs, including a three-run homer over the centerfield fence by Morgan Noad, and took a commanding lead, 8-0. CCU tagged on another run in the third inning to win by the final score, 9-0.

UMES could not find any answers in slowing down the Chanticleers. In the two contests, the Lady Hawks combined for two runs on seven hits whereas Coastal Carolina scored 20 runs on 17 hits in the two wins.

For the Chanticleers, Noad went one-of-three from the plate, including a homer in the second inning, while Hayden and Amanda Daneker each registered two RBIs in the victory.
