LADY HAWKS LOSE IN FINAL GAME OF ELON CLASSIC

BURLINGTON, NC Jenny Clohan struck out eight of the 11 batters as the James Madison softball team took down the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hawks 14-0 Sunday afternoon at the Elon Phoenix Classic. UMES had dropped their opener to N. Carolina A&T by a score of 6-2.
JMU started the scoring barrage in the top half of the first inning when Amber Kirk led off the game with a single up the middle and later came around to score on a RBI ground out by Megan Smith.
Kirk finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored while Smith went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI's for the Dukes.
While Clohan held the UMES offense at bay the Dukes continued to increase their lead. After putting up a four spot in the second inning to make the score 8-0 the Dukes added five more in the top half of the third with Clohan leading off the inning with a solo blast to over the left field fence. It was Clohan's first collegiate home run and the fifth of the season for JMU.
After Kirk came around to score on an error by the centerfielder, Katie Cochran brought home another run for JMU on a sacrifice fly to make it 12-0. Tamara Carrera brought home two more on a double to right center to give JMU the 14-0 lead.
Bounds took over from there shutting out the UMES offense over the next two innings to seal the win for JMU.
