BURLINGTON, NC - The UMES softball team picked up their first win of the season on March 4 when they downed the N. Carolina A&T Lady Aggies, 6-1 in game four of Elon's Phoenix Classic. UMES got three hits apiece from freshman Kendra Saunders and senior Jenille Edwards. Christina Mason, Charlotte Ngondi and Kristen Greenwood each finished with one hit for the Lady Hawks. Mason got the win for UMES as she pitched seven innings and gave up just one run on five hits. The maroon and grey were not as successful against NCAT in the final game of the Elon Classic on March 5. The Lady Hawks fell 6-2 in their second contest against the Lady Aggies. Saunders and Edwards finished with two hits apiece for UMES while Mason, Ngondi and Latoya Bailey each got a hit for the maroon and gray. The Lady Hawks are off for a few days, next facing off with Coppin on Thursday, March 8 in a 2:00pm decision in Baltimore.
