Baltimore, MD - UMBC (10-16) won both ends of a doubleheader today as they shut out Maryland-Eastern Shore (1-14) by scores of 8-0 and 3-0, this afternoon at the UMBC Softball Stadium.

In the first match, the game remained scoreless through three and a half innings until a two-out double by senior Jen SanFilippo put the Retrievers up, 2-0. UMBC added four runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to claim the 8-0 victory. Retriever starting pitcher Lauren Nicholson (4-4) received the win as she allowed five hits and two walks while striking out five in six innings of work. For the game, UMBC was led by senior Kristie Pickeral, who went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI's.

In the nightcap, the game once again remained scoreless for three and a half innings until Retriever freshman Kelly Claar led off with a single in the bottom of the fourth. Senior Crystal Beveridge followed with a single, and Hawk pitcher Chrissy Mason walked Gina Olivieri to load the bases. Retriever starting pitcher Amy Sadowl came up to the plate and hit a two-RBI single to give UMBC a 2-0 lead. The Retrievers would add another run later in the inning, and held on to the 3-0 victory. Sadowl (3-5) earned the win, as she pitched a three-hitter while walking none and striking out five in five innings of work. Freshman Jessica Taylor, who came in relief in the sixth, earned her first save of the season as she allowed no hits, while striking out two of the six batters she faced.

Lindsay Poss, Lesley Aitkenhead and Autumn Parson all collected a pair of hits on the day for UMES.
