LEXINGTON, SC - The UMES Lady Hawks took an early 3-0 lead over defending MEAC champions Bethune-Cookman (BCC) but the Lady Wildcats battled back to take the 11-3 victory on day two of the MEAC Roundup at Pine Grove Complex. Kendra Saunders plated all three runs for the Lady Hawks when she homered to center field to send Ngondi and Bailey home. BCC (24-23, 8-3 MEAC) put up two runs in the bottom first when Ariel Robinson and Shaterra Davis each crossed the plate for the Lady Wildcats. Bethune-Cookman plated two more in the second and scored seven runs on six hits in the third, en route to an 11-3 lead. Saunders finished 2-2 with one run and three RBI's. Ngondi went 2-3 with one run, while Bailey and Jenille Edwards each picked up a hit for UMES. The Lady Wildcats had a 3-3 outing from Robinson to go along with two runs and two RBI's. The Lady Hawks return to action tomorrow when they battle first-place Florida A&M (FAMU) in the third day of the conference roundup. UMES, originally scheduled to play the Lady Rattlers at 2:00 pm on Saturday, will instead play at 9:00 am Sunday due to inclement weather in the Lexington area.
