LEXINGTON, SC - The Lady Hawks softball squad dropped a pair of games on the third day of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Roundup at Pine Grove Complex. UMES fell in an 11-2 decision to conference leaders Florida A&M (FAMU) and were later shut out in an 11-0 decision by Norfolk State (NSU).

In the first game of the day, the undefeated Lady Rattlers put one up on the board in the first and another in the second to take an early 2-0 advantage. FAMU (29-20, 12-0 MEAC) scored five runs on six hits in the third inning en route to a 7-0 lead.

UMES put two on the board in the bottom fourth when Latoya Bailey and Kendra Saunders each scored an unearned run after advancing home due to an error on FAMU's Kelly Gordon.

Danielle Brown's double in the fifth inning plated Shalina Taylor and Alyssa Watts. Brown and Destiny Gordon crossed the plate later in the inning to give the Lady Rattlers the 11-2 mercy win in five innings. Bailey and Saunders each picked up one hit and one run for the Lady Hawks. Gordon finished 2-2 with two runs and one RBI.

UMES gave up 13 hits in the loss to the Spartans in the second game of the day. NSU (15-20, 7-7 MEAC) took a 5-0 lead in the first inning and plated three more runs in both the second and third innings for the 11-0 advantage.

Saunders picked up a hit for the Lady Hawks in the fourth inning when she singled to right field. Candace Tyler singled up the middle in the fifth inning for UMES' second hit of the game.

Saunders and Tyler each finished 1-2 while the Spartans got three hits apiece from Petway and Byrne.

The Lady Hawks (3-28, 0-12 MEAC) are back in action April 12 when they take on Howard in a 1:00 pm doubleheader in Washington DC.
