PRINCESS ANNE, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader versus Delaware State, falling to the Lady Hornets 13-1 and 9-0 in a pair of games at Hawks Field on Saturday.

Traci Slate threw a one-hitter against the Lady Hawks in the first game and got offensive support from Catrina Ansbach and Ashley Schaff, who combined to drive in eight of the 13 RBI by Delaware State (25-17, 12-0 MEAC). UMES (7-25, 6-12 MEAC) scored its lone run in the fourth inning from senior Dana Blakey. Blakey also had the Lady Hawks' only hit of the game.

In game two, the Lady Hornets jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning and continued to pad its margin with two runs in the fourth inning. Delaware State added two more runs in the seventh when Marissa Merill scored after Courtney Sams singled to send her home. Sams later crossed the plate on an RBI by Jessica Murray, securing the 9-0 win for the Lady Hornets.

Jennifer Wilson collected UMES' two hits in the second contest, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate, while Merrill finished 2-4 with two runs and two RBI to pace Delaware State.

The Lady Hawks will travel to Baltimore to face Morgan State on Sunday, April 17 in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
