BALTIMORE, MD - Three days after sweeping Morgan State in a home contest at Hawks Field, the Lady Hawks suffered a double-header sweep at the hands of the Lady Bears on Sunday, April 18. Morgan State defeated UMES 11-3 in game one, and followed that up with a 3-1 win over the Lady Hawks in game two.

In game one the Lady Bears (6-25, 6-10 MEAC) fell behind by a 3-0 deficit in the first inning. But Morgan State came on strong at the bottom of the inning, closing within a run of UMES (7-27, 6-14 MEAC) going into the second inning.

The Lady Bears opened the floodgates in the third and fourth innings, adding three runs in the third and six in the fourth to take an eight run lead over the Lady Hawks.

Autumn Parson, Jennifer Wilson and Ashley Jones each had one hit apiece for UMES, but it was not enough to help the Lady Hawks as they fell to the Lady Bears by a final score of 11-3.

Things were more exciting in game two, but unfortunately UMES could not get the victory.

The Lady Hawks had several defensive lapses, committing four errors in the second matchup. Morgan State took advantage of the UMES errors and scored two runs in the third inning, giving them the early 2-0 advantage.

The Lady Hawks added a run of their own at the top of the fourth inning, as Latoya Bailey singled up the middle to score Autumn Parson. Rachel Allan singled in the fifth to score Jessica Scott, giving the Lady Bears the insurance run they needed to wrap the game up. UMES could not get a hit in the final 1.5 innings, sealing the 3-1 win for Morgan State. Marlee Johnson had a 2-4 outing while Parson finished 1-2 with one run. Bailey added a hit and one RBI.

The Lady Hawks will face off against non-conference foe Towson on Wednesday, April 20 in a doubleheader beginning at 3:30.
