Princess Anne, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawks (4-31, 3-11 MEAC) had their winning streak halted at three games by a tough Lady Pirates squad from Hampton University (26-20, 11-5). Hampton took game one of a double header rallying from a one run deficit to score three in the sixth, taking it by a 6-4 margin. In game two the tough Pirate pitching held UMES in check as their bats put six on the board.

In game one Hampton took a 2-0 lead on UMES, scoring one run in the first and third innings. The Lady Hawks quickly tied it up, getting a one out single from Rena Bishop (1-3 1 run) on a shot up the middle. That was followed by a Linday Poss (1-4 1 run) single to center that moved Bishop to second. Now with two outs Lesley Aitkenhead stepped in and sent a shot to left field over the outfielder's head. That put her on second base and plated both Bishop and Poss for two RBIs.

Hampton put the lead to one when they scored in the fifth inning. UMES took the lead right back in the bottom of the inning. Jen Wilson (1-3 1 run) drew a one out walk and went to second on a single by Aitkenhead (3-4 1 run, 2 RBI). With two outs Latoya Bailey (1-4) loaded the bases on a single up the middle. Heather Patnode (0-3) stepped in and hit a hard shot to first that mishandled and she was safe with Wilson and Aitkenhead scoring.

With UMES up 4-3 Hampton would get three runs in the sixth off of starter Chrissy Mason who went the distance allowing nine hits and six runs, three earned. The Lady Hawks were unable to muster offense in the sixth or seventh and fell 6-4.

In game two the hot Hampton bats picked off where they left off, getting six runs on ten hits. The Lady Pirates scored four in the first inning and two in the second and never looked back as the Lady Hawks were able to get only two hits while committing two errors. Those came off the bats of Marlee Johnson and Patnode. Mason took the loss to drop to 4-27 on the season allowing just one earned run, no walks and striking out five.
