PRINCESS ANNE, MD - Kristen Greenwood and Kendra Saunders each drove in a run in the second game against Winston-Salem State (WSSU) as UMES fell 3-0 and 5-2 to the Lady Rams Saturday afternoon at Hawks Field. Greenwood's single in the fourth plated Saunders for the maroon and gray's first run of the contest before Saunders doubled in the sixth to send Brooke Downey across the plate. Downey and Tiana Strother also notched one hit apiece in the decision. Winston-Salem State (12-27) took a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning when Devin Gillette and Bronwen Jones each crossed the plate for the Lady Rams. WSSU tacked on three runs in the sixth, spurred by a single by Whitney Hall that plated two runners. L'Tisha Hall scored the final run for WSSU that inning when she crossed the plate on a passed ball. In the first decision, Tamika Willis broke up Ashley Boswell's bid for a no-hitter in the sixth when she singled up the middle. The Lady Rams outhit the Lady Hawks 5-1 that contest and committed one error compared to four by the maroon and gray. UMES (2-28) returns to action tomorrow (April 22) when they host Hampton in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1pm.
